We have just added our line of wood earrings so it might be a good time to talk about wood as a piercing material. Although most of the earrings have a French hook in either stainless steel or sterling silver, a very popular line uses wood as the piercing pin. Wood is actually a good piercing material as long as a few simple rules are followed. Wood does allow the pierced hole to breathe being porous so you tend not to get the smell that sometimes comes from a more solid piercing material. The rule that needs to be followed by the manufacturer is that the wood types used in the piercing jewelry do not cause an allergic reaction. (Coolpierce is very careful on this.) For the customer care should be taken to clean the part that goes through the hole by using a wet cloth. Vegetable oil can be wiped on afterwards to stop the wood drying out. Wood is probably one of the earliest materials used by man for making jewelry and hopefully this will be continued for a long time to come.
